Gajar ka halwa
Gajar ka halwa is the most loved dessert in both India and Pakistan. It is an expensive dessert when bought from a bakery. The reason for its high cost is because of the variety of dry fruits used. You can always customize the ingredients of this carrot dessert. Here we are not making the halwai style dessert but the original and simple halwa. Carrots are the main ingredient; we cannot compromise on this ingredient however we can adjust the number of dry fruits and sugar.
Gajar ka halwa ingredients
- Grated carrot any type but red carrots taste the best.
- Sugar
- Cardamom
- Cooking oil
- Dry fruits of your choice
- Milk
Directions:
In a pan, we will heat the oil on medium heat. When the oil gets warm, we will add green cardamoms seeds or powder both will do. After a second we will then add the grated carrots.
Stir the carrots for a minute and then cover the lid. let the carrots simmer for 5 minutes on low heat.
The carrots will release water and this water is enough for the carrots to cook.
The carrots will cook in few minutes and the water dries out and at this stage, we will add the milk, sugar, and the dry fruits.
We will mix the ingredients together well and cover the lid again for 5 minutes. Carrots will absorb the milk; sugar will caramelize the mixture and our gajar ka halwa is ready to serve.
Turn off the heat and serve the dessert hot. You can chill this in the fridge and then serve it.
Note: Adjust the amount of sugar according to your taste and dry fruits as you like. Since this halwa is not a halwai style recipe, therefore, I have skipped the khoya.
